Posted: 07/20/2004

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) recently unveiled the Governor’s Health Care Reform Panel Web site. The site outlines the general mission of the Panel as well as provides additional Panel information, including its Preliminary Report, membership, events, media library and recent publications.

The 31-member Panel, chaired by DHH Secretary Dr. Fred Cerise and Senator John Breaux, is composed of national experts on health care, legislative, governmental and business leaders, and a representative from each of the nine health care regions throughout the state. It was formed in March 2004 shortly after the state’s first annual Health Care Summit, which drew overwhelming public support to discuss the current condition of health care in Louisiana. The Panel has been charged with:

  • Studying the condition of health and health care in Louisiana and making recommendations for change;
  • Serving as an informational resource; and
  • Providing direction to DHH in developing and implementing policy to improve Louisiana’s health care system.

Jim Brandt, President of the Public Affairs Research Council (PAR), was appointed to represent PAR on the Panel. He has been assigned to research the implementation, or “best practices,” of school-based health care centers in the state.

The second meeting of the Panel is scheduled for Thursday, September 23, 2004 in New Orleans, Louisiana. For additional information, please visit the new Health Care Reform Panel Web site at:
