PAR Holds 2009 Annual Conference and Luncheon on April 24

The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) will hold its 2009 Annual Conference and Luncheon on Friday, April 24, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn Select) in Baton Rouge. Table sponsorships and individual tickets are available for reservation now.

Gerald Seib will deliver the luncheon keynote speech, “The Obama Presidency: Great Ambition or Grave Overreach?” He is the assistant managing editor & executive Washington editor of the Wall Street Journal. He writes the paper’s “Capital Journal” column and is a regular commentator on Washington affairs for CNBC and Fox Business News. Seib was part of the team from the Journal that won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the September 11 terrorist attacks. He is co-author of “Pennsylvania Avenue: Profiles in Backroom Power,” published by Random House in 2008.

The morning session will feature panelists discussing the upcoming legislative session with a focus on budget issues. Panelists include, Chief Economist of the Legislative Fiscal Office Greg Albrecht; Commissioner of Higher Education Sally Clausen, Deputy Superintendent of Education Ollie Tyler, Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine (invited), Senate President Joel T. Chaisson, II (District 19); and Representative Patricia Haynes Smith (District 67). Times-Picayune Bureau Chief Robert Travis Scott will moderate the discussion.

The half-day conference is open to the public, and the cost is $85 per person ($75 for PAR members). Lunch is included in the price. Reserved sponsorship tables for 10 are also available at a cost of $1,000 for gold tables and $750 for silver tables. PAR’s membership and Board of Directors will meet at 9:30 a.m., and the conference will begin at 10 a.m.
