PAR’S 2003 Annual Conference and Luncheon on April 4

The Public Affairs Research Council will hold its 2003 Annual Conference and Luncheon on Friday, April 4, at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Baton Rouge.

David Wessel, Deputy Chief of The Wall Street Journal’s Washington Bureau, will be the luncheon keynote speaker. Mr. Wessel writes the weekly front-page “Capital” column, a weekly look at the economy and forces shaping living standards around the world. He also appears frequently on CNBC. His topic will be “The U.S. Economy: Today, Tomorrow and in 2023.”

The morning session of the conference will feature a panel discussion on the major issues to be addressed in the 2003 legislative session and an examination of the state’s current fiscal problems. Entitled “Louisiana Fiscal Crisis: Causes, Consequences & Solutions,” the panel will include: Senator Jay Dardenne, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee; Commissioner of Administration Mark Drennen;David Hood, secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals; Representative Steve Scalise, member of the House Appropriations and Joint Legislative Budget Committee; and Jim Brandt, president of the Public Affairs Research Council. Jeff Duhé, producer with Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB), will moderate the morning’s panel discussion.

The half-day conference is open to the public, and the cost is $85 per person ($75 for PAR members). The luncheon is included in the price. Reserved sponsorship tables of 10 are also available at a cost of $1,000 or $750. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. PAR’s membership and Board of Directors will meet at 9:30 a.m., and the conference will begin at 10 a.m.
